Feeling good about your smile can do a lot to revitalize your confidence and self-esteem. For most people, the ideal smile means having a white teeth. If you’re looking for quick and effective ways to whiten your smile, Philips Zoom! Might be right for you.
What is Philips Zoom! Teeth whitening?
Philips Zoom! Is one of the common well-known in-office teeth whitening methods. Zoom! Users appreciate its effective, quick results in a safe and controlled environment. Zoom! uses a highly concentrated peroxide whitening gel and a proprietary blue light which kindles the whitening process. This whitening procedure guarantees immediate results unlike the gradual change of at-home whitening methods.
Before the Zoom! Teeth whitening procedure
Before deciding whether zoom! is right for you, your dentist will carry out a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure proper health. Your dentist will ask questions about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if whitening will work best for you. This consultation will help you and your dentist agree on the whitening method that will best suit your needs.
In some situations, whitening may not be the best alternative. For example, patients with existing dental work, such as permanent crowns or veneers may want to ask their dentist about other alternatives. Artificial teeth will not respond to traditional whitening agents. In addition, patients with a strong gag reflex may have a difficult time undergoing the entire procedure. Zoom! is typically not recommended for patients under 13 years of age, as well as pregnant women.
During the Zoom! teeth whitening procedure
The complete Zoom! procedure takes less than an hour, but a regular teeth cleaning is recommended before the teeth whitening session.
The procedure starts with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, while leaving the teeth exposed. The dentist or dental assistant then applies the Zoom! whitening gel, a highly-concentrated 25 percent hydrogen peroxide gel, and sets the Zoom! Light. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen flows into the enamel to tackle stains and discoloration, leaving the structure of the tooth unaffected. The gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated.
Typically, the gel is applied for three 15-minute sessions of light activation, for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Later, a fluoride paste is applied to the teeth to help reduce sensitivity.
After the Zoom! Teeth whitening procedure
Users may experience sensitivity some days after the procedure, but this usually lessens after a couple of days. Your dentist may recommend brushing with a sensitivity-reducing toothpaste in the days prior to and/or following the procedure to help with this.
Just like other teeth whitening systems, touch-ups may be needed periodically, as teeth tends to darken over time. You may be given an option to get an at-home touch-up system with trays and whitening gel. Your dentist will guide you on how to use this.
In addition, your dentist will consult with you about certain foods you may want to avoid to keep your smile whiter and long-lasting. Coffee, tea, wine, and cola are all known to darken teeth due to its tobacco content.
